Bangladesh Alliance for Worker Safety has published their 18-month progress report on Monday. Board President of Bangladesh Alliance for Worker Safety Ellen O. Tauscher said “Recent political condition and violence are making the renovation process of industries slow, we call on all sides which are committed to build a successful Bangladesh to stop violence and start dialog.” The Alliance authority is not satisfied with this slow pace of renovation. On condition of anonymity an official of Alliance Dhaka office said “There is a schedule to solve every specific problem in the factory but the factory authorities disdaining the minor errors which they can solve easily, like the electrical faults.” But the managing director of the Alliance for Worker Safety said “we need lot of tools that are necessary for the renovation process which are expensive and must be imported from abroad, so the time limit is somewhat loosened.”

After Bangladesh’s Rana Plaza building collapsed in April 2013, killing more than 1,130 people, leaving more than 2,000 injured and about 800 children orphaned the “Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety” was founded by American retailer Walmart, including fashion giants Gap and Target and comprises 26 global retailers, their main concern is to help out more than 700 factories that produce low-cost ready-made garments for well-known brands such as Benetton, Primark, Mango and Monsoon Accessorize. In November Alliance inspected 647 garments factories and checked fire, building and electrical safety system of the factories. Recently many factories are renovating according to Alliance’s Corrective Action Plan (CAP).

According to the progress report of Alliance, the re-inspection of more than 100 factories is already done. Besides, CAP is approved in 300 garments factories. The final inspection of 10 percent factories will be completed by July 2015 and within July 2017 final inspection of all garments factories will be completed. The report also referred that Alliance will provide low-interest loans for the reformation of the garments factories.
