Ministry Ceased Extended Jute Batching Oil (JBO) Price

At last the tumid price of Jute Batching Oil (JBO) is ceased. Few months ago Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) had announced the pushed up price of JBO but Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources ceased this decision in the context of the demand of jute mill owners. Noted that, I have published a report containing title "Jute Industry of Bangladesh in New Crisis" at February 28, 2015.

JBO is an essential ingredient in jute manufacturing as it is applied on the jute fibre to soften and untangle it. The price of JBO was 68 Tk per litre. But Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) increased the price to 110 Tk per litre, which is 42 percent more than previous price. The new price has been effective since 4th of February. Bangladesh Jute Spinners Association (BJSA) researched the impact of JBO price hike and it shows that, as per previous price the jute mills spent 235 crore taka on account of JBO per year, but because of increased price of JBO the cost is now 382 crore taka, which is 147 crore more than previous cost.

On March 3, 2015, Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources decided to dormant the functionality of the propaganda. In this context the chairman of BPC Mr. A M Badrudduja said “Considering public health we had decided to raise the price of JBO, JBO price is lower than soybean oil and corrupt businessman are mixing JBO with soybean oil to gain more profit. But it is also true that jute mill owners shall be aggrieved at the outcome. Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources decided to dormant the functionality of the propaganda to find an alternative expedient.”

Regarding this matter the Chairman of Bangladesh Jute mills Corporation Mr. Humayun Khaled said “It is a satisfactory decision. After increasing JBO price we were apprehensive about losing buyer as we have to raise product price because of high manufacturing cost but now we are out of risk”. Ministry personnel said that they are trying to find a new alternative and efficient way to deal this situation considering both public health and the demand of jute mill owners.
