Country’s six garments factories has been upgraded to international level by finishing all kinds of renovation works. The factories are Optimum Fashions, Green Textiles, Kun Tong Apparels, Laundry Industries, Leni Apparels, and Univogh Limited. A group of North American apparel buyers Alliance for Workers’ Safety gave this recognition.
This information was announced in a press conference on Thursday on the two years anniversary programme of Alliance at a city hotel. The former US Ambassador to Bangladesh and executive director of the Alliance James F. Moriarty gave the keynote speech of the programme.
The former US Ambassador to Bangladesh started his speech by saying in Bangla “Ami Bangladesh ka Valobashi”. Then he started his English speech. He said, Alliance has end inspection of most of the factories. In this factories structural, electrical and fire safety-related defects have been found in small and large scale. This factories are now carrying out the renovation works which is planned by the Alliance. Alreadysixfactorieshave achievedthe highestinternationalstandards by ending all renovation works.
The managing director of Alliance Mesbah Robin said,“Eight apparel factories were extensively inspected but six of those met the requirements. The factories are given certificates within one or two days”. He informed that 790 factories are now member of Alliance and 662 factories are active off these. Alliance have already completed primary inspection (RVV) to 528 factories on them.
A group of European buyers named Accord are visiting the factory as well as the Alliance coalition. Two member of them factory Concord Fashion Ltd. And Jikan a export has done all renovation works. In all, up to now eight factories has upgraded to global standards.
USAID aid agency of the United States will provide funding for the renovation of small and medium garment factories. The mission director of the organization said,“At the end of the current amount financing will be finalized”. The owners of the factory will be able to take low-interest loans from the fund through Prime Bank and United Commercial Bank (UCB).
Though Jenina not mention the amount of money the Alliance official said USAID will give 1 crore 80 lakhs dollar loan.
