The Garment’s exporters of Bangladesh are going to move towards green building initiatives to impress the growing tribe of eco-minded international retailers. They are also in process to grab more work orders. According to BGMEA (Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association) From the United States Green Building Council, 14 companies of Bangladesh have already received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.

Among these 14 factories 5 factories conferred the platinum status, 5 gold,1 silver and other three received the normal certification from the United States Green Building Council. According to BGMEA after passing selection criteria, 50 more factories are in process to receive the LEED certificate.
Building project of the factory must satisfy essential prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification to get LEED certification. For each rating system prerequisites and credit differ. The teams choose the best fit for the project.
More than 150 factories are expected to receive LEED certificate by the end of 2016 said vice-president of BGMEA. If it is possible the construction of more green factories then more garment items will be exported from Bangladesh. The factories of Bangladesh who are mainly expanding operations are going for green building projects by keeping the view to bag more orders from international garments retailers. There are a lot of benefits of green buildings i.e. reduction of about 24% energy consumption and 50% water consumption.
Vice president of BGMEA Shahidullah Azim said, “ since Bangladeshi garment makers are going for high-end garment production, green initiatives will help a lot in building their confidence, as LEED certification indicates practice of good compliance and environmentally safe procedures”.
By keeping marketing as the main mission green building initiatives are mainly undertaken in Bangladesh. If there is such structures can be ensured the confidence of retailers will increase which will grab more order for Bangladesh in near future.
